Kayunga International Christian Centre
In keeping with our mission to invest in the next generation of community-minded leaders, Harvest Foundation has partnered with Global Discipleship Ministries (GDM) of Kampala, Uganda, Africa to build an educational campus in the village of Kayunga, Uganda.
The partnership follows several years of investment in the African nation by Harvest founder Wayne Berthiaume, who, since 2004, has supported the work of frontline missionaries and participated on construction crews to help build housing for that nation’s orphaned children.
Now, it embarks on it’s premiere investment project to build the Kayunga International Christian Centre (KICC), a three- structure complex featuring an Elementary School, Conference & Worship Center and separate bathroom facilities for students, staff and guests.
Foundation work for the campus has begun with church members raising more than $12,000 to draw up blueprints, prepare the ground and supply bricks for the construction.
The build is overseen by GDM Founder Bishop Elijah, head of the Kampala International Christian Centre and founder of Hands of Love Children’s Home, that provides loving homes for some 1,800 abandoned and orphaned children, from infancy through age 18.
Bishop Elijah, wife Ruth Sebuchu and their staff are committed to nurture, educate and affirm the children, raising them to become responsible adults who are positive role models in their nation.
Kayunga International Christian Centre (KICC) Auditorium – The 500-seat venue will serve as a worship and conference center for church gatherings, educational seminars and a variety of workshops for leaders and community members. The Sebuchu’s’ ministry has grown to also offer youth leadership programs, women’s empowerment conferences, marriage enrichment seminars and other curriculum to encourage all ages to better their circumstances and play an active role in bettering their villages.
The present challenge for the people of Kayunga, is that these educational opportunities are presently being held beneath temporary papyrus structures. But Bishop Elijah’s motto is “together, we can make a difference.” Wayne saw that philosophy in action during a trip to Uganda in 2016 and it’s an ideal he wants to support.
Harvest Foundation has pledged to raise $120,000 for the KICC campus. It also recently received a generous donation of $20,000 to help with that goal.
The project is set to be completed in 20-24 months.
And, this September, Wayne and a seven-man team, will fly to Uganda to check on the construction progress and help do some of the work. They also will deliver several suitcases filled with donated medical supplies, clothing and other items for the Ugandan people.
That is why we have committed to helping these families build quality, multi-purpose facilities — places where they can gather, learn, and develop healthy communities.
We are presently seeking financial investors to make this dream a reality.
